10.38 "Kio? Ĉu ne konkubinigis vin Ĉu Min? El tio,kion mi lastatempe konstatis,li jes..." La Delegito estis maltrankvila.
"Senkorulo! Pro kio vi parolas tiel? Demandu al iu ajn en la vilaĝo,se mi ne perlaboradis honestajn vivrimedojn per la ŝvito de mia frunto. Neniu iam ajn aŭdacas tuŝi min,krom vi!"
"Mi ege bedaŭras!" la Delegito pardonpetis,mallaŭtigante la voĉon. "Tion mi ne sciis. Vi devas pardoni mian eraron."
Onjo Krizantemo subite disradiigis ĝojon. Ŝi klopodis stariĝi kaj etendis siajn manojn por atingi la Delegiton. Dume ŝi diris,"Mi pardonas vin,Mintun. Mi pardonas al vi ĉion. Ni forgesu la pasintajn solecajn jarojn. Ni reiru hejmen kune." Kaj ŝi fermis siajn okulojn kaj ekkriis en feliĉo,"Ho,finfine realiĝis miaj sonĝoj. Mi havis tiom da belaj sonĝoj,kaj jen ili realiĝas!"
La Delegito malantaŭenpaŝis pro ŝiaj vortoj kaj diris rapide,"Ne! Mi ne povas reiri la vilaĝon. Mi jam ne plu apartenas al la vilaĝo. Mi apartenas al la revolucio,al la homamaso! Ne,mi devas tuj reiri al la Provinca Ĉefurbo."
"Kion?" Onjo Krizantemo timigite malfermegis siajn okulojn kaj ekkriis alarmite. "Ĉu vi ne pensas pri mi? Ĉu mi ne aperis foje en viaj sonĝoj?"
Anstataŭ respondi ŝiajn demandon,la Delegito daŭre ripetadis:"Mi devas tuj reiri al la Provinca Ĉefurbo. Mi devas! Mi devas ĉeesti tiom da komitataj kunvenoj. Certe,ŝi estas naskonta..." Poste li ekparolis al si,"Mi devas esti apud ŝi. Ŝi scias malmulton pri tiu ĉi lando. Ŝi ne povas malhavi min..."

"What? Hasn\'t Chumin made a concubine of you? From what I have gathered just now,he has..." The Delegate was ill at ease.
"You heartless man! What makes you speak like that? Ask anybody in the village if I haven\'t made an honest living by the sweat of my brows. No one ever dares to touch me,except you!"
"I am so sorry!" the Delegate apologised,lowering his voice. "I didn\'t know that. You must forgive me for the mistake."
Aunt Chrysanthemum suddenly beamed up. She tried to get up and spread out her hands to reach the Delegate. Meanwhile she said,"I forgive you,Mintun. I forgive you everything. Let\'s forget the past lonely years. Let\'s go back home together." And she closed her eyes and exclaimed with elation. "O! my dreams have come true at last. I have had so many beautiful dreams and now they become realities.
The Delegate recoiled at her words and said quickly,"No! I can\'t go back to the village. I no longer belong to the village. I belong to the revolution,to the masses! No,I must go back to the Provincial Capital right away."
"What?" Aunt Chrysanthemum opened her eyes with fright and shouted in alarm. "Don\'t you think of me? Didn\'t I come into your dreams sometimes?"
Instead of answering her questions the Delegate kept on repeating:"I must go back to the Provincial Capital right away. I must! I have so many committee meetings to attend. Besides,she is going to deliver a child..." Then he fell into a soliloquy,"I must be by her. She doesn\'t know much about this country. She can\'t do without me..."
