10.43 Alan profunde rigardis al Laŭ Liŭ,tute perpleksita pro la amemo,kiun nia rakontisto ŝprucigis sur ŝin. Larmradioj komencis ekbrili en ŝiaj okuloj. Dum ili silentadis,ĉiu enrigardante l\' okulojn de l\' alia,ŝiaj larmoj subite elruliĝis kaj kovris ŝian larĝan vizaĝon,multe variolumitan. "En mi estas nenio,kio meritas vian bonkorecon kaj afablecon,S-ro Laŭ Liŭ," Alan diris,ankoraŭ rigardante sur la vizaĝon seriozan de la Vickomisaro de Propagando. "Mi estas denaska servistino. Mi estas..." Ekplorsingultis ŝia voĉo.
"Sed vi estas bela! Vi estas ĉiele bela!" Laŭ Liŭ prononcis siajn vortojn glate kaj ritme kvazaŭ li deklamus versaĵon.
"Ĉu vi vere kredas?..." Naiva rideto ekaperis sur la malorda vizaĝo de Alan. Ŝi ĉesis plorsingulti,serioze atendante ĝis respondos la Vickomisaro.
"Vi estas bela! Via koro estas la plej bona en la mondo!" La Vickomisaro de Propagando konfirmis sian aserton. "Vi havas animon de proleto. Via koro batas proletmaniere. Tion mi sentas."
"Ĉu vi neniel volas komenti mian vizaĝon?" Alan demandis denove.
Nia Vickomisaro hezitis momente,rigardante ŝiajn grandajn variolmarkojn. Poste li diris decideme:"Ĝi aspektis mirinde bele ĉar ĝi spegulas vian belan animon."

O Ran gazed deeply at Lao Liu,completely confounded by the affection showered on her by our story-teller. Rays of tears began to shine in her eyes. As they remained silent,looking into each other\'s eyes,her tears suddenly rolled out and flooded her broad face,dotted with a myriad of pockmarks. "There is nothing in me to deserve your kindness and sympathy,Mr Lao Liu," O Ran said,still looking into the serious face of the Assistant Commissar of Publicity. "I am a servant girl by birth. I am..." Her voice broke out into sobs.
"But you are beautiful! You are heavenly beautiful!" Lao Liu pronounced his words evenly and rhythmically as though he had been reciting a piece of verse.
"Do you really think so? ..." A naive smile emerged on O Ran\'s messy face. She stopped sobbing,waiting seriously for the Assistant Commissar to answer.
"You are beautiful! Your heart is the most beautiful in the world!" the Assistant Commissar of Publicity confirmed his statement. "You have the soul of the proletarian. Your heart beats in the proletarian way. I can feel that."
"Have you nothing to comment on my face?" O Ran asked again.
Our Assistance Commissar hesitated for a second,staring at her gigantic pockmarks. Then he said decisived:"It looks amazingly beautiful because it mirrors your beautiful soul."
