Provu pensi pri io alia, ekzemple pri via bela bovino. Provu pensi pri la tago kiam,ĉar ĉiuj ni maljunuloj emeritiĝis kun granda dividendo,vi kaj la juna bovino kaj ties infanoj faros nenion krom dancadi sur la verdaj montetoj..."

"But I am a lonely old man,ma'am. I can't retire."
"You'll have the young cow to distract you. She will bear you grandsons and grand-daughters. Her family will keep you busy."
"Yes,perhaps you're right,ma'am. But the circumstances are so different now!" Uncle Pan heaved a sigh. His old eyes grew dim and vague and dull. He stared blankly through the window at the trees and the highway beyond and the undulating hills beyond the highway. Then he resumed in a dreamy voice as though speaking to himself,"When I was approaching the village on my way back from the County City,I could hardly recognise the familiar sight of the shining tiles, the sand-stone walls of our cottages and the blue sky over the village square, where Lao Liu's golden voice used to ring. I only felt something chilly about the village, something dark and cloudy hanging over the roofs, and something like the swollen shadow of Mao Mao's corpse towering before my eyes."
"That is only a momentary vision caused by Mao Mao's death," my mother explained. "Don't think about it any more,Uncle. Try to think about something else, about your beautiful cow,for instance. Try to think of the day,as all of us old people retire with a big bonus, you and the young cow and her children will do nothing but gambol on the green hills..."
