"I am,my old man," the priest answered incoherently. "Do you want me to teach? No,thank you!"
"We don't want you to teach," one of the men said, and showed him a pistol that he carried at his belt. "Come along with us. We're from the new local government. We were watching you murmuring prayer at the execution ground this morning. Your birds of a feather!"
"What is that?" my mother asked the visitors in great panic.
"He is under arrest," one of the plain-clothes detectives said.
"What for?"
"For trial! Don't you know that he is a revolutionary bandit?"
"But he is a great supporter of the new dynasty," my mother said. "He confessed that not a long time ago."
"Then how do you account for the fact that he received three acres of Lord Chumin's land from the revolutionary bandits? He is not an ignorant peasant, you know. He is a priest capable of reading and writing, just like his accomplice the schoolmaster."
"Don't argue with a village woman, pal," the other detective said. "Let's go. We have so many other jobs to do these days!"
