11.12 La postan tagon mankis matena nebulo. La suno disverŝis sian varmon malavarege,jukigante niajn dorsojn. Onklo Pan kondukis la junan bovinon sur la vilaĝan placon por sunumiĝi. Li opiniis,ke tion ŝi bezonas pli ol ion ajn alian: ŝiaj belaj oraj haroj bezonis ĝin por brilglatiĝi,kaj ŝia koro bezonis la varmon por gajiĝi. Li ĉiam pensis,ke ŝi estas malgaja de kiam ŝia patrino estis ŝtelita la pasintan aŭtunon. Siamaniere ŝi aspektis tiel soleca kiel orfo. Kvankam Onklo Pan provis de tempo al tempo paroli al ŝi avece,tamen ŝi estis tro juna por kompreni lian lingvon.
Onklo Pan nun sidis apud ŝia flanko sub la suno,glatigante per sia manego ŝian flankon. Ĝuste kiam li intencis komenci ŝajnkonversacion kun ŝi,ŝi ekbatis per la kruro. Ŝi eksaltis pro timo,ĉar la gardhundoj ariĝis en la vilaĝofino kaj furioze bojadis kontraŭ grupo da homoj,ĉiuj armeuniformitaj. Tiuj strangaj vizitantoj ektimigis ankaŭ nin. Ĉiuj portis pafilojn. Malsimile al la Kamparanaj Volontuloj,ili portis,krom netajn uniformojn,militistajn kaskedojn,sur kiuj aperis kiel insigno po desegnaĵo de martelo kaj serpo. Ni ne povis imagi,de kie ili venis. Nur kiam ili marŝis per soldata ritmo ĝis la mezo de la placo,ni ekkonstatis,ke ili devas esti la regulaj soldatoj el la gubernia urbo,kie troviĝis taĉmento de la Revolucia Armeo. Unu el ili,malaltstatura iom malfortika ulo kun pistolo en la zono,marŝis rekte al Onklo Pan kaj demandis: "Onklo,volu diri al mi,kie loĝas Maŭmaŭ."

The next day there was no morning mist. The sun shed its warmth exorbitantly,making our backs itch. Uncle Pan took the young cow out to the village square for a sun bathe. He held that she needed it more than anything else: her beautiful,golden hair needed it to get glossy and her heart wanted its warmth to be cheerful. He always thought that she had been unhappy since her mother was stolen the previous autumn. In a way she looked as lonely as an orphan. Although Uncle Pan tried to talk to her now and then like a grandfather,yet she was too young to understand his language.
Uncle Pan was now sitting by her side in the sun,smoothing her flank with his large hand. Just as he was about to begin a mimic conversation with her,she suddenly gave a kick. She was starting with fright,for the watchdogs flocked to the end of the village and barked furiously at a group of people,all in army uniform. These strange visitors made us start,too. They all carried rifles. Unlike Peasant Volunteers,they wore,in addition to smart uniforms,military caps each with a design of a sickle and hammer as the frontal badge. We could hardly imagine where they came from. It was only when they marched with military steps to the middle of the square that we began to realise that they must be the regular soldiers from the County City,where there was a detachment of the Revolutionary Army. One of them,a short,smallish fellow with a pistol at his waist,walked right to Uncle Pan and asked: "Uncle,please tell me where Mao Mao lives."

11.Kvankam Onklo Pan provis de tempo al tempo paroli al ŝi avece,tamen ŝi estis tro juna por kompreni lian lingvon. Kvankam ...tamen ...虽然......但是...... 引导让步状语从句。用tamen ，不用sed，如果从句位于主句之后，tamen 可以省略。de tempo al tempo 不时，avece 像爷爷一样，tro juna por kompreni lian lingvon 太小而听不懂他的语言。tro...por... 太......而不能...... por 后接动词不定式表示否定的概念。相当于英语的too...to...，当然也可以改为tiel...ke...(so...that...)的结果状语从句：ŝi estis tiel juna,ke ŝi ne povis kompreni lian lingvon. （如此......以致于......）
