2009/12/20 20:16:23 -- Guozhu: --Foreword to Cindy Mckee Chineskas (Ci-versas)-- The new book (ebook) Cindy Mckee Chineskas now before you, is not something ordinary, but an anthology rare and dear. Every one of its traits brings us progressive joy. Above all else, it\'s a collection of original Esperanto poems. An Esperantist reader, even without knowledge of Ci poetry, can find in it the enjoyment of reading original poems. Realizing that not all of us are capable of creating verse in Esperanto and successfully readying a collection, I admire this. Secondly, it\'s a collection of original Ci poetry. In our world, there\'s not just a few collections of original Esperanto poems. However, an individual compilation of original Ci poems is still not common. Because versing in Ci according to rigorous schemes to have beauty in sound and form, is a difficult art even for Chinese authors with the background of Chinese culture and a knowledge of Chinese poetry. The author is an Esperantist, non-Chinese, female and using her actual name. With the above three points, if we separate them it wouldn\'t be difficult to satisfy one condition. But, if we want to find someone who conforms to all those, the task is too trying. There\'s not just a few Esperantist poets. There\'s not just a few non-Chinese poets. There\'s not just a few female poets, both Esperantist and Chinese. There is an Esperantist female poet who has an individual collection of Ci poetry, who according to our knowledge is named Lily. However she is Chinese and writes under a pen name. By that one-by-one listing we can realize that a person who meets all those traits not only is rare, but in fact, unique. So, this is the first Ci collection written by a non-Chinese Esperantist female poet in the history of Ci poetry. Many years ago, William Auld dreamed about the appearance of a non-Chinese poet, whose Ci poems merit inclusion in the famous collection Esperanto Anthology. 1 The reason for his desire, I suppose, is possibly because of the fact that creating Ci (to verse in a non- Chinese language according to the scheme of Chinese fixed-form structure) is too difficult; so appearance of a non-Chinese "Chinese" poet marks the spread and internationalism of Ci. Unexpected harvest: In this collection are also several Ci poems in English. The author of this collection, Cindy Mckee of the United States, inspired by reading and composing Ci in Esperanto, creatively versed also in English, so becoming the initiator of Ci in the English language. Very worthy of congratulations! This chinesko poem compilation (ebook) appears in a good day (Zamenhof Day). Double memorable! This chinesko collection appears during the Centennial Jubilee of the Chinese Esperanto Movement: 1909 to 2009. Could the pioneers of a century ago have imagined the birth of chinesko and the appearance of a non-Chinese Ci poet? What a good homage to the Jubilee! This compilation set several unprecedented records, but the talented author is still in vigorous form for even more composing; so we have good reason to expect that from her pen (or keyboard) will come even more brilliant poems! For the appearance of the new poem collection 1http://www.elerno.cn/bbs/dispbbs.asp?boardid=24&id=3645 Reading Ci poetry, the great poet William Auld was so enthusiastic that he wrote a favorable review Start to Itch, Poetic Hand and expressed his wishes that, "I hope that the third edition of Esperanto Anthology will contain original Ci poems also from poets who are not Chinese."
